Privacy Policy

FamiCircle ("we," "our," or "the app") is a family organizer app developed by Daniel Slater. Your family's privacy matters to us — especially when children are involved. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
The short version: Your data stays within your family group. We do not sell, share, or use your personal information for advertising. We collect only what is needed to make the app work.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
- Email address and password — used to create and secure your account
- Display name — shown to your family members within the app
- Profile photo — optional, displayed in your family group
- Sign in with Apple — if you choose this method, we receive your name and email (or Apple's private relay email) as authorized by you
Family & Household Data
- Family name and member profiles — including roles (parent or child) and profile colors
- Calendar events — titles, dates, categories, locations, and attendees
- Chores — titles, assignments, schedules, completion status, and approval records
- Shopping and to-do lists — item names, categories, and assignments
- Family messages and notes — text content shared within your family group
- Trip plans — destinations, dates, packing lists, and budget information
- Trip photos — images you upload, including photo metadata (date taken, location if available in the photo)
- Expenses and budget data — amounts, categories, and optional receipt photos
- Recipes and meal plans — recipe details, ingredients, meal schedules
- Recurring schedules — school, work, and activity time slots
Location Data
Important: FamiCircle includes optional family location features. Location data is only collected when explicitly enabled by the user.
- Real-time location — GPS coordinates shared with your family group when location sharing is enabled. Each family member controls their own sharing toggle.
- Geofence zones — custom locations (home, school, work) set up by parents, with arrival and departure notifications
- Location history — arrival and departure events at geofence zones, retained for up to 90 days (configurable by the family)
- Emergency SOS location — when an SOS alert is triggered, continuous location updates are streamed to family members until the emergency is resolved
- Check-in location — when a family member sends an "I'm safe" check-in, their current location is included
- Battery level — device battery percentage is shared alongside location data so family members know if a device may go offline
Location data is stored in your family's private Firebase collection. It is not shared outside your family group, not used for advertising, and not sold to third parties.
You can disable location sharing at any time in the app's Location Settings. Disabling it immediately stops all location data collection for your device.
Reward & Allowance Data (Premium)
- Stars earned, reward requests, approval history, savings goals, and allowance transactions
Automatically Collected
- Device language — to display the app in your preferred language
- Basic usage analytics — such as which features are used (e.g., "chore created," "trip viewed"). These are aggregate and do not include personal content.
- Push notification tokens — to deliver reminders and family notifications to your device
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- Contacts or address book data
- Health or fitness data
- Browsing history
- Advertising identifiers
- Microphone or camera data (except photos you explicitly upload)
3. How We Use Your Data

4. How We Store & Protect Your Data
- All data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage), hosted on Google Cloud infrastructure.
- Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on Google's servers.
- Authentication is handled through Firebase Authentication with secure credential storage.
- FCM tokens are stored securely in the iOS Keychain on-device.
- Family data is isolated — each family group can only access its own data through strict Firestore security rules.
- Location data is isolated within your family and subject to the same security rules as all other family data.
- A local offline cache (up to 100 MB) is stored on your device for app performance. This data is removed when you sign out or delete the app.
5. Children's Privacy
FamiCircle is designed for families, and we take children's data seriously.
- Child accounts are created and managed by a parent within the family group.
- Children are assigned the "child" role by default with limited permissions.
- Only parents can approve chore completions, reward requests, and role changes.
- Only parents can set up geofence zones and configure location tracking for children.
- Children can see their parents' locations but cannot see other children's locations.
- Children's data (chore history, rewards, location) is only visible within their family group.
- We do not knowingly collect data directly from children under 13 without parental involvement. A parent must create the family and invite members.
- Parents can delete a child's data by removing them from the family group.
6. Location Data Specifics
- Permission required: Location features require iOS location permission. The app requests "Always" permission for background geofencing — you can grant "While Using" instead, but background features (geofence alerts, SOS location streaming) will not work.
- User control: Each family member has an individual location sharing toggle. Turning it off stops all location collection immediately.
- Data retention: Location history is automatically deleted after a configurable period (default 30 days, configurable from 7 to 90 days).
- Emergency SOS: During an active SOS, location is streamed at high frequency (every 5 seconds) to all family members. This stops immediately when the emergency is resolved.
- No third-party sharing: Location data is never shared with advertisers, data brokers, or any party outside your family group.
7. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising.
Your data may be processed by the following service providers, solely to operate the app:
- Google Firebase — cloud database, authentication, file storage, push notifications, cloud functions, and analytics
- Apple — Sign in with Apple authentication, WeatherKit (weather forecasts for trip planning), push notification delivery, and in-app purchase processing
- Google Calendar API — if you choose to import events from Google Calendar, the app accesses your calendar data with your explicit permission via OAuth. We do not store your Google credentials.
We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.
8. Your Rights & Choices
- Access your data — all your family data is visible within the app
- Export your data — use the Data Export feature in Settings to download your family data
- Update your information — edit your profile, events, and other content at any time
- Control location sharing — toggle location sharing on or off at any time in Location Settings
- Delete your account — contact us at the email below to request full account and data deletion
- Opt out of analytics — disable analytics through your device's privacy settings
- Manage notifications — control push notifications through iOS Settings or in-app notification preferences
9. Data Retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. Location history is automatically deleted based on your retention setting (7, 30, or 90 days). If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data from our servers within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregate analytics data may be retained.
10. International Users
FamiCircle is available worldwide. Your data is processed and stored on Google Cloud servers, which may be located outside your country of residence. By using the app, you consent to this transfer. We comply with applicable data protection laws including GDPR for European users.
11. In-App Purchases
Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not collect or store your payment information. Apple's privacy policy governs payment processing.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the app or via email. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
